Camera surveillance is now more accessible than ever before. Security cameras are no longer opt for businesses only, nowadays it is also used by individuals to increasingly protect their private properties. Security cameras have become more affordable and there are more choices than ever before. This can make the choice for the right security camera more complicated. We will gladly explain where you should pay attention to.
Analog, XVR or IP?
The older type of surveillance camera is the one with the analog connection. Those who already own an analog camera set and want to expand will probably choose to buy an analog camera again. There is nothing wrong with that, but keep in mind that analog cameras are very outdated and will probably disappear in the future. An alternative is an XVR camera.
XVR cameras are also known as a 4-in-1 camera: this camera doesn’t only have analog features but also, AHD, CVI and TVI signal. As a user, you can choose which signal you want to use. In this way, you can combine the camera with the newer ADH, CVI or TVI recorders. There are also XVR recorders that are compatible with all the mentioned signals above. There are also tribrid cameras (3-in1: analog, HD-TVI and IP).
A final option is the IP camera. This camera is known for being easy to use and very easy to install. It is already explained in the name, IP cameras are using IP signals, what makes it easy to send and watch IP cameras. The cameras are only constable with an analog recorder if you use a converter.
Wireless or wired?
Whether it is better to opt for a wireless or wired camera system it depends entirely on the situation. Wired security cameras often have a better signal and can, therefore, be placed further from each other, but sometimes the situation does not allow you to pull cables. In this situation, a wireless camera can offer the right solution. These cameras are easy to install and with the right configuration no less reliable than the wired version. Moreover, the signal can easily be amplified with the help of an antenna amplifier.
Which design is better?
The choice for the design of the camera depends on where you want to place the camera. The most common security cameras are dome cameras and bullet cameras.
A dome security camera has always a round shape and can be easily mounted on the ceiling or (vertically) on the wall with a bracket. A dome camera can be rotated in any direction, just like an eyeball camera. You can do the something with a bullet camera, but this camera is oblong and can be attached to the wall with a bracket. This can be both horizontal and vertical. The big difference with the dome camera is that the bullet camera is more noticeable and therefore has a deterrent effect on burglars. In addition, there are other types of cameras, such as the fisheye camera with a 360-degree image and also the PTZ camera, which is fully controllable and can capture every desired angle from far or close distance.
Inside or outside?
All surveillance cameras are suitable for indoor. Do you want a camera for outdoor purpose? Check if the camera is classified for IP66 or higher. This means that the cameras are dust-proof and also water-resistant and can, therefore, be placed outdoor. Cameras with an IK10 rating are vandal resistant and can, therefore, withstand shocks. It is wise if your camera doesn’t have these ratings, to purchase a separate housing.
