What is fiberglass?
Fiberglass is a wafer-thin fiber of glass.
Data data is transported by means of light through the fiber optic.
Fiber optic is useful for sending data at lightning speed over very long distances and it is also very reliable!

Microns: 1/1,000,000th of a meter, 25 Microns equals 0.001 inch.

This is most common when fibers are referred to by sizes.
Nanometer: one trillionth of a meter. This term is used in fiber optic industries.

Singlemode fiber: has a small core of around 9 microns and is used for telephony and CATV.
It can cover great distances at a very high speed! ( 1300 and 1550 Nm )
* The singlemode and multimode have an outer diameter of 125 microns, which is approximately five thousandths of an inch and not much larger than a hair.
* Then there is the plastic glass fiber or plastic optical fiber (POF), which has a core of 1 mm and is often used in car communication and consumer hi-fi also called MOST.
